About

Hello! My name is Marti and I am a Social Worker by training and calling. I have a deep commitment to social justice and bring this into my practice.

I am a college professor and a counsellor and have spent most of my career working within urban Indigenous communities providing community organizations with clinical supervision and community support.

I am a settler on un-ceded territory (Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang) and am committed to the ongoing effort to decolonize my practice.  I have worked with Indigenous communities over the last 25 years and receive regular supervision with Indigenous practitioners

My approach is humanistic and holistic; shaped by my education (MSW), enriched by diverse training  and tested by my years of experience in the field.

I have particular experience supporting people individually as they navigate: addiction, complex trauma, attachment wounds, burnout, and the persistent stress of our modern world. I have advanced training in working with dissociative disorders.

I am a sessional lecturer at the First Peoples Studies Department of Concordia University and have taught in the Social Service AEC program for Language and Cultural Interpretation (Kativik School Board). I am currently a full time Faculty in the Social Service Program at Dawson College.

In my role as the Clinical Coordinator at the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal over a period of 10years, I have supported a number Indigenous Organizations (Cree Health Board, NACAFV,QNW), sat at consultation tables for various levels of government (City of Montreal- Women’sHousing Committee, CMHC- Pan Canadian Voices in Women’s Housing), supported research (Dr. EFast- Concordia University, Dr, J Cunningham- UQAM), supervised staff and students from a rangeof disciplines (law, social work, nursing) and collaborated in program development (Saralikitaaq,Iskwe, Ashukin, Miyoskamin).

I am queer, sex positive and body positive.

I am a licensed Social Worker with the OTSTCFQ and a recognized provider with NIHB

I look forward to learning more about YOU!
